may you rest in Elysian Fields
My Husband & I recently farewelled a friend of ours who sadly was killed in the War in Afganistan. We’ve spent a few weeks thinking about how we want to best honour Tim’s passing. One thing that dawned on us is the realisation that many people probably don’t know that soldiers are actually quite deeply spiritual people.
Many soldiers look to the old ways for answers and explanations to questions about an afterlife. Questions that are very often close to their minds in times like these.
So this one’s for you Tim. May you rest in Elysian fields for evermore. May you be among mates, may your beer never run dry & your laughter be constant.
In Greek Mythology,The Elysian fields, (sometimes known as the Elysian plains), were the final resting place of the souls of the heroic and the virtuous.
To gain access to Elysium the souls of the dead first had to cross the River Styx. (ferried by Charon the boatman. )The River Styx was the principal river of the underworld and had to be crossed to pass to the regions of the underworld.
- close crop of ghostly soldier figures across river Styx :
[Thankyou to SkeletalMess for the textures, ghostly soldiers - public domain stock, flood filter to create the river, Thanks to my Husband Robert for modelling & helping me with concept development. Emotionally speaking, this one was tough….]
