artist bio / philosophy
I’ve loved art for as long as I can remember.
Growing up on a sheep station in Western Queensland meant that I went to boarding School in Toowoomba, and have strong memories of working late into the night in my Dorm, finishing my latest artwork at the expense of other subjects. Maths and Science never held much fascination, but Art could keep me up till all hours. This need to create has always been with me.
Originally preferring to paint in Acrylics or draw in pastels & graphite, I now work almost exclusively in the Digital Photographic medium.
I had my first child six years ago, and quickly learned that a new baby and litres of paint and canvas wasn’t going to be a good combination. So I looked to Photography to satisfy my creative needs.
Through some searching of the internet, I found an on-line Art Community based in Australia (RedBubble), that not only displays Artist works, but prints and sells it too.
Thinking that this sounded worth investigating, I dug up some of my old photos which had been well received at local Shows. In no time at all I had a large portfolio of work, with almost 50,000 views and regular sales in under two years.
This tentative start in Photography with some old photos quickly ignited a love of photographic imaging in me and I haven’t looked back.
I turned all my creative efforts to learning about the photographic process & constantly challenging myself to explore new techniques.
I’m never far from my camera, and often out and about looking for more shots to use as the basis of my images, in fact, it’s become quite a family affair with the whole family enjoying the outings into the country. Not satisfied with what I call “straight” photography, I spend hours in the post processing of my work, frequently using numerous shots overlaid onto the image to create texture and depth. To watch an image evolve through the use of these many layers & textures, to reach that moment when I know a work is complete gives me a great sense of creative satisfaction.
I currently reside in the Toowoomba area with my Husband, two children & one fuzz-ball family pet.
